Cysts

Hi, I had a scan in the month of July. This was due to the fact that I always have discomfort when on my menses that make me experience severe pains. The results showed that I had a cyst on my right ovary measuring 4.8 by 3.4 cm. It had internal echo from haemorrhage; no pouch of Douglas fluid was seen. I was put on a cycle 1 pills and after completion, the pain never disappeared. I’m still experiencing them up to date and what scares me is I’ve been having a foul smelly blood discharge during my periods that’s causing me great discomfort because I feel as if people can smell it. It’s 9 months since I got married and haven’t been able to conceive since. I don’t use any contraceptives except for that 1 month that I was put on the cycle 1 pills. I’m really worried and it’s really weighing me down. The doctor told me that it’s too early to think of infertility and that I should give myself a period of 1 year. Am I on the right track and is there a possibility for me to conceive?? Kindly advice.

An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac of tissue that develops inside or around an ovary.
Many ovarian cysts don’t cause symptoms. Others can cause:
Pressure, swelling, or pain in the abdomen
Pelvic pain
Dull ache in the lower back and thighs
Sharp pain on the ovary
Pain during sex
Weight gain
Pain during your period
Abnormal bleeding
Nausea or vomiting
Breast tenderness
Ovarian cysts do not usually affect your ability to conceive and your doctor is right. For majority of people it takes a while to conceive and it’s usually better to keep trying for at least a year before your doctor can apply any intervention measures.
However, please do see your doctor about the foul smell during your period as it could be a sign of infection.
We wish you all the best.
