Hi, I am a new mum and my baby is almost 3 weeks now. I haven’t bathed my son yet. All I do is wipe him with warm water. The umbilical cord fell off but hasn’t dried up completely because you can see a white, not dry spot inside. He sweats a lot especially during the night and he seems uncomfortable. When do I start bathing him? I am in the coast.

It is recommended that you begin to wash the baby even before the cord has dried. After the bath (where you immerse the baby completely in the water) please wipe off the cord with spirit as this helps to dry this area. Continue to wipe the cord area with spirit until it completely closes up.
